Wow.... has it been that long??

Wow.... has it really been that long since I've posted here? I swear Ive been meaning to drop you a line a LOT sooner. Where did the time go??! How has your year been? Do you remember everything that has happened since May 4th 2010?? I'm not sure if I can off the top of my head, but Im going to give it a shot!

After the release of our PJP Debut Album in March 2010, we lost a band member due to visa issues. I guess thats what we get for putting together a band with only one Canadian member.... and basing the band in Canada. That band member was the uber talanted Mr Matthew Smithies, who has since returned to playing music on cruise ships around the world. Matthew was our lead guitarist and producer of the album. We were, and still are, grateful for his efforts and input into the PJP. We will always have that first record together.

The PJP has played countless shows since the summer of 2010, too many to even begin trying to recollect. We have played many bars, venues, houses and halls both in and out of the GTA as a 4 to 5 piece party cover band as well as the rock trio. It would be very hard to pick a particular show to talk about, but what I can say is that every single one has honestly been the most fun I've ever had playing music. Sharing a stage with Mike Melo and Johnny Lawrence makes my job that more enjoyable and that much easier. And for that, I am truly honoured.

We have had many of our friends join us at shows, including Gary Morissette on Guitar & Vocals, Erik Bleich on Guitar & Vocals, Mike Lawless on Keys & Vocals, Matt Hadaway on Drums, Jessica Hana Deutsch on FIddle & Vocals and Frank Ryan on Guitar & Vocals. It sure is nice to have talented friends!!

Now onto the exciting news I came on here to tell you! The PJP started laying down tracks for a new EP this weekend. Yes, thats right... a new P.J.P.E.P.!! You may have heard some of the newer material at a couple of our recent shows, but for those of you who haven't.... you're in for some treats! The three of us are very happy with how the songs are turning out. We are recording live off the floor, the way we like to record... old school. Very minimal overdubs, almost none aside from some vocals. And thanks to David Plank and his wonderful sounding room, it was very easy to capture these live performances on a recording. It sounds crisp, warm and massive.

I cant say exactly how long until its release, we have to add some finishing touches as well as mix & master and get the artwork together. But I will definitely keep you all in the loop... a lot better than I have been at least! I will leave you with a sample track list of our new record, its your job to imagine what they sound like. Have fun with that!

1. Get Out

2. Memory Lane

3. Far From Home

4. One Chance

5. Question Avenue

6. Say (What You Need To)

I've got the sicky blues... and a nice deep rough voice to prove it! I should totally take advantage of my "sexy phlem" as a certain characted from a certain tv show once described it. I'm thinking of either recording a Tom Waits tribute or record the PJP tunes again under the name "Scratch Willie Johnson the 3rd".

But, that's not all my news. The band hit the rehersal room this week and we worked through some new tunes. Exciting! We haven't booked a PJP show in a couple weeks now, feels like forever. We are concentrating on getting our sh...tuff together for this summer. It's gonna be a busy one folks.

If you have yet to purchase your copy of the new album... click on the itunes or cdbaby link on the music and home page and DOOO IT! I would recommend it, but that's me.

That's all for now...

- P

Mastering the CD has begun!! We headed down to the studio today and watched our songs get dipped into the mastering process. It should be ready to be manufactured by Saturday... scary!! And damn exciting!

We've been working on the cover with the help of a good friend, Frank. That too is just about done! I'm getting some tickets printed off for the release party and they will be available for sale a.s.a.p.

Tickets bought in advance are $15 (includes a CD) and tickets at the door will be $20 (also includes CD).

Will keep you updated!

- P

It's almost that time.....

CD RELEASE PARTY TIME!!!

Join us on Saturday March 6th 2010 for our Debut Cd Release at the Bread & Circus in Kensington Market, Toronto. The night will feature some giveaways, special guest performances & of course, the PJP performing songs from the CD live on stage!

We highly encourage you to tell ALL your friends and literally drag at least some of them if you have to. We promise some fantastic performances and good vibes. As John Lennon once wrote...

"Having been some days in preparation

A splendid time is guaranteed for all

And tonight Mr. Kite is topping the bill."

"The Record"

On Sunday October 25th 2009, the PJP hit the studio to lay down some tracks for their Debut album ...

Halloween happened ...

Thanksgiving happened ...

Christmas happened ...

New Years happened ...

... NOW, it's the first week in January 2010 and the album is ALMOST done!!!

We are not 100% sure of the tracklisting just yet, but there will be 11 to 12 songs. The release date is to be confirmed, but we are aiming for mid to late February.

I cannot wait for you all to hear the tunes. A lot of sweat, laughter, coffee, clicking, rotti, listening, dancing and a hell of a lot of determination has gone into the album... and it is going to be COMPLETELY worth it.

All I'm going to say is ... it sounds fecking fan-bloody-tastic!!

Check in soon!

- P

I JUST noticed that the last Blog entry was posted in May 2009... time really does fly!

It is October now, there is a chill in the air, Halloween & Christmas decorations surround us, and most people are coughing and sneezing! The PJ Project has been keeping busy these last few months. We've been playing shows all over the city, as well as a couple of regular spots in pubs & restaraunts.

We hit the studio this week & made a good bit of progress, despite the fact that 3 out of 4 of us got hit with cold's & flu's. We will be recording the last couple of tunes next week, fingers crossed it will be ready for some time in December.

This day time Lemsip tastes funny...

- P

You can even become a member of the site, have your own profile and message other members, as well as posting your own show photos and videos of yours truly. Fun?? I think so!! Take a gander around...

Also, I should mention... we have a couple of shows coming up. Check out the shows page or just glance to the right of the page.

Cheers!

- P
